This way of learning is different from traditional methods of language instruction. This program is rather intensive. For one thing, the student is immersed in an English-language environment. The percentage of Cincinnati residents who are monolingual, native-English speakers is quite high. When speaking with people in hotels, supermarkets, restaurants, and such, it is necessary that the student speak English. Of course the student also studies English at CINCILINGUA during the hours from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. This includes a 1 hour lunch with a CINCILINGUA teacher. Before and after lunch there are two three-hour blocks of classes. During these classes, the student engages one-one-one with a a native English speaker. The content of each class is customized to the needs of each student. Many students come to CINCILINGUA in order to develop their English skills for the purpose of using them in the business environment, that is, in their careers. So in a typical class the student might study general business vocabulary, or vocabulary specific to his or her profession. The student may also learn business skills, such as how to write emails in English, or how to give a successful presentation in English. The acquisition of these skills includes classroom simulation. Additionally there is extensive conversation practice in order to improve both the student’s speaking and listening skills. Topics of conversation include the nature of his or her job, current issues at work, current events, etc. By the aforementioned means, students are able to significantly improve their English skills in a highly practical way.
