“Wish” is a regular verb that can be used to express several different meanings:
- To wish somebody something
- I wish you luck.
- We wish our friends the best.
- To express a hypothetical situations (present)
- I wish I had a new car.
- The Teacher wishes that he could visit Mexico.
- To express a hypothetical situation (past)
- The student wished she had studied harder in school.
- Brazilian soccer fans wish that Brazil had won the World Cup.
- To express regrets, complaints, and to want something to happen
- The man wished he had been a better father. (regret)
- The Teacher wished her students would not interrupt her. (complaint)
- They wished it would stop raining everyday. (something to happen)
