Teaching English online for CINCILINGUA is very enjoyable. The students are a pleasure to work with. There is one big challenge – juggling times zones! Teaching Online, I can teach from anywhere, so when I am in Chicago, which is one hour behind Cincinnati, where the CINCILINGUA offices are located I have to calculate that because CINCILINGUA only uses Cincinnati Time/ET for classes. When a student requests class at a certain time according to Eastern Standard Time, I have to remember to subtract one hour (if that’s the right way to put it.) So far so good. Sometimes, though, it gets a little complicated. Once I was teaching a student from Argentina, where they are two hours ahead of Chicago. During that same period, I had a student from Guatemala, where they were one hour behind Chicago. At this time I am teaching a person from Mexico who normally lives in New York City (one hour ahead of Chicago), but this week she is in Mexico City (the same time as Chicago). I have another student from Colombia (one hour ahead). In Costa Rica they don’t observe daylight savings time, so for a while we were one hour ahead of Costa Rica in Chicago, but now we are on the same time. (Did I say that right?) Every now and then, my head spins! So that is why CINCILINGUA never talks about scheduling a class using any other time zone other than Cincinnati Time/ET.
